Methinks I love Dickens (and as a bonus, you will discover where they're taking the hobbits!).

I finished reading Nicholas Nickleby late last night, and absolutely loved it!

I think, because of a time shortage on my part, I'm going to mash my review on The Hunger Games and Nicholas Nickleby together into an upcoming post ;) I promise, it's coming!

But anyway.....

I read the book only because I had heard of a good film version, and very much wanted to see it because of.... the casting...... *coughs* I shall refrain from saying more. Dear mother almost never allows us to watch films based on books unless we read the book first.

So, almost grudgingly, I started reading the book.

But what resulted was an eternal love of Dickens, chocolate, and Smike. Nicholas is automatic.

In lieu of a review for a moment, let me just say that I enjoyed Nickleby more than any book I had picked up in awhile. If you haven't read it, I highly urge you to!

At any rate, here is the trailer for the version that I'm watching this week:

And as a bonus......

I found this uproariously hilarious, or else completely annoying, LOTR spoof. I can't stop chuckling over it.

(The POTC 'I've got a Jar of Dirt' vid like this is hilarious too.)

See y'all later!! I'll be back with a review or two, and an acceptance speech!

I actually haven't read the book yet, but I LOVE that movie! My friend had been begging me to watch it with her for the longest time, but it actually wasn't until I discovered *cough, cough* Jamie Bell was in it that I *cough, cough* decided to watch it.
I would like to read the book though. I would actually like to read every single book Dicken's ever wrote. Was that your first of his?

As for taking the hobbits to Isengard... my family and I watched that video about five years ago and it still pops up in regular conversation. It's probably the most annoying thing I've ever heard in my life. Maybe it's due to my dislike of Mr. Bloom, but I trust you'll excuse me for not pushing play. ;)

It's been years since I read Nicholas Nickleby, but I loved that book, too! :)

I've seen that version of Dickens... but I'm lost as to the whole LOTR thig... never seen it.

What did you say?
They're taking the hobbits to isengard-gard-gard-gard-gard.

The Director said...

Oh yes, it's because of dear Jamie *chokes* that I even found out about it..... my mom just watched the trailer, and I heard her exclaim, "It's Jamie!" And she was all like, "I should have known!!!" Looking at ME, of course =P

Oh yes, I figured some people are seriously annoyed by that video. Don't push play if it will give you grief, dear ;)

Yes, this was my first DIckens. YOU will love it!
Smike is a dear favorite, but probably the image of Jamie in my head influenced that...

The Director said...

Lol, you guys ;) Qui, LOVE the profile pic of you by the way!

Riah-- you haven't seen LOTR or that video?

Marian-- *high five* :D

Oh, I am currently (sort of) in the midst of reading Nicholas Nickleby!! I actually **gasps** watched the movie first, and decided that since the movie was so awesome, the book must be simply amazing. Besides, in my honest opinion, Dickens is pure genius. And so far, I was right. There is so much more to the book!

I haven't finished it yet, but I hope to soon, especially after reading this post. :)

Oh, and yes, the cast is amazing!

I'm the friend who got Georgie into Nicholas Nickleby. I ADORE the book. I've read it four or five times and each time I just...ahhh. *happy sigh* The movie is a favorite of my, if not one of my all time favorites. I don't like the actor that plays Nicholas, I personally don't think he can act too well. Jamie Bell, Christopher Walker and the others are amazing though.

I'm so glad to find another lover of Nicholas Nickleby!

Oh by the way, they're taking the hobbits to Isengard! :)

Hmmm...I wonder where they're taking the hobbits? (OO)

I've watched that spoof too many times to count. :)

Heyo! I figured out the exact dates I'll be in OR! Should I email you all the details?

Ahhh!!! As soon as I saw your title, I KNEW you were posting that video!!!! Eeep! I love it so much! The day I found it, I watched it like, 5 or 6 times, at least! It's so great!!

The Director said...

Yeah, I don't think Charlie Hunnam was quite suited for the role, but he's not terrible ;)
Jamie stole the film. As always :D

Yes please!!!! I shalt await thine email ;)

Lol ;)

Coincidences seem to be ever present in my life. Like this one. I was looking up Jamie Bell because he will be playing in the upcoming Tintin movie (I wanted to see what he looked like) and found out about Nicholas Nickelby, which looked like a great movie. So... I decided to get the book (very excited that it was Dickens) and then you posted about it! Crazy! :)

The Director said...

Too funny Hannah!
If you were looking Jamie Bell-related things, like, videos (or movies!) or pictures, looking at stuff from Jane Eyre and The Eagle or even Jumper are closest to what he looks like now-- in the Tintin film everything is motion capture, so it won't be his face you see, it will be Tintin's-- but, since Tintin looks so young, Nicholas NIckleby is a good one to get a general idea of what he will look like in the role ;)

Again, waaaay too funny!

Hannah Joy said...

I know! Oh ok! I did not know it would be in Motion Capture! That is way cool, I can't wait until the movie comes out...I love the books. :) Have you ever read them?

Hannah Joy said...

P.S. I love the Lord of the Rings spoof! It's HILARIOUS! I love the music.

Amaranthine said...

A Nickolas Nickelby and Hunger Games mash-up review? Can't wait. XD.

The Director said...

I've read every single one-- you??

Yeah-- apparently the motion capture quality is NUTS. Can't wait!

Hee hee-- me is working on it :)

Hannah Joy said...

Yes, I've even read the very first ones!!! (Tintin in the Land of the Soviets and Tintin in the Congo). They are so awesome. No, awesomer than awesome. :)

Just saw pictures from it, and they look great! I love the animation!

I am dying with excitement!

*Face Palm, Laugh Out Loud* I have seen that hobbit thing so many times! My dad plays it just to annoy me, and I take it to school and annoy my friends! Sorry, I'm a little strange! Anyway, thanks for sharing, you made my day! :)

Joryn said...

Looking forward to that double review!!

Oooo, Nicholas Nickleby looks really good!(both book and movie) (and I uh, *cough* agree, the cast looks pretty cool...:)

Where are those Hobbits being taken? maybe I need to watch the video again and make sure I've got it straight...*watches video* Ah, yes, Isengard. :P I showed that to my dad and before I knew it, the whole family was gathered around the screen and laughing. :)

Hannah Joy said...

Oh. My. Word. That song is still stuck in my head 3 days after watching it!
Worse, my sister will now randomly come up behind me and declare, "They're taking the hobbits to Isenguard!" >_<
